Overview
Permit applications and the required checklists and other documentation can be submitted to the Fire Marshal in person at Station 1, located at 701 E. Third Ave., or by mailing to:

All permit applications must be legible and complete, and must be accompanied by the permit fee, appropriate system checklist, and the system plans. All incomplete submissions will be rejected and returned.

Fire Protection Systems, Fire Alarm Systems & Permitting

Permits are required for the following systems in new construction, new installations in existing buildings, and replacements / repairs in existing buildings:

  • Above Ground Piping Fire Sprinkler Systems
  • Below Ground Piping Fire Sprinkler Systems
  • Fire Alarm Systems
  • Kitchen Fire Suppression Systems
  • Paint / Spray / Powder Coating booths, rooms, or areas
  • Special Hazard Suppression Systems including UL 300 & FM 200 Systems
  • Access Roadways and Gates
  • Private Fire Hydrants and piping
  • Under Ground fuel tanks
  • Above Ground fuel tanks
  • Propane / LPG installations above 500 gallons water capacity
  • Industrial processes, including ovens, drying operations, and dust producing operations
  • Battery Systems with liquid capacity of 50 gallons

Operational & Hazardous Materials Permits

Operational permits are required for the following:
  • Hazardous Materials 
  • Aviation Facilities
  • Carnivals and Fairs
  • Dry Cleaning Plants
  • Combustible Dust Producing Operations
  • Exhibits / Trade Shows
  • High Piled Combustible Storage
  • Hot Work Operations
  • Industrial Ovens
  • Lumber Yards exceeding 100,000 board feet of storage
  • Marijuana Extraction Systems / Facilities
  • Fire Department Radio Coverage Systems
  • Tents and Temporary Membrane Structures exceeding 400 square feet
  • Battery Systems having a liquid capacity in excess of 50 gallons
