Business License
All businesses and individuals conducting business within the City of Moses Lake are required to obtain a City business license as regulated in Municipal Code 5.04 whether or not the physical business address is in or outside of the City.

Upon receipt of your application and the annual fee of $85 prorated by the quarter, a license is valid through the end of the calendar year. Automatic renewal applications will be mailed a month before their renewal date. Please contact us if you close your business down or you will be assessed a late fee because we are assuming you are still open until we are notified otherwise.

The State of Washington requires a unified business identifier in order to do business in Washington. You may fill out and file an application online.

A business does not need a business license if the business meets all of the following criteria:
  • Business does not have business activity subject to utility tax.
  • Business does not have employees performing work other than mere delivery within the City limits.
  • Business does not have inventory within the City limits.
  • Business is not conducted within the City limits.

The most common examples of firms not needing a license:
  • Businesses whose gross proceeds of sales, or gross income of the business, is less than $2,000 per year.
  • Farmers and gardeners selling their own unprocessed goods.
  • Mail Order, catalog, or interstate sales if you don’t have offices, warehouses, sales staff, installers, or contractors in the City limits.
  • Nonprofit enterprise for public charitable, educational, literary, fraternal, or religious purpose without private profit.
