You’re invited to explore Ellensburg multi-media artist Justin Colt Beckman’s Western Territory.  This interdisciplinary exhibition investigates the unique characteristics of small-town life and the rural landscape.  Juxtaposing contrasting subjects as a way to reinterpret the story of the American Union’s expansion into the Western Territories.

Survey the historic dichotomy of urban and rural cultures and their associated stereotypes as you consider the relationships between the industrialized and technologically advanced parts of the American Union and the underrepresented cultures existing in the farmlands and frontier territories.  Essentially a city boy with country boy tendencies, Beckman uses photo-based works, film/video, sculpture, installation, and new-media to engage with and better understand his rural surroundings.
