Project Postcard is a way to support our local community through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting isolation it has caused for so many of us. To serve our region’s most vulnerable populations and foster connections through the arts, the City of Moses Lake Museum & Art Center is pleased to introduce a new social connecting campaign, Project Postcard! This community-wide campaign will feature original artwork commissioned from local artists that can be colored in using your creativity. The Museum will distribute card packets and instructions to anyone willing to help out in the month of October, then collect and distribute the completed cards and messages of care to residents of assisted living homes, care facilities, and health care workers. Join us in this opportunity to focus and share what we are grateful for while honoring and encouraging our most vulnerable populations.

Vibrant hues of cobalt blue seem to dance
energetically with airy cloud forms in the Water and Sky
series by Spokane resident visual artist Karen Mobley.
For Mobley, nature is a huge influence on her art and the way
she views the world. She has led art education and workshops in a variety of notable institutions including Whitworth University, the Spokane Public Library, and Spokane Art School. We invite you to experience her expansive and bright oil paintings paired alongside expressive large-scale charcoal drawings. This is a unique opportunity to view the artist’s drawing and painting processes side-by-side.
This show will be on display until January 21, 2021.

A book club that will begin as a virtual Zoom meeting with the goal to transition to in-person meetings as COVID restrictions are lifted. Participants in the club will be reading books by authors of color and/or biographies of artists of color. After the first meeting, the next title will be voted on by attendees after a brief nominating process. Readers will be responsible for finding their own copies of the book; the Museum will not be selling the book club titles. The intention of the club is to increase knowledge and cultural awareness, to acknowledge the biases that we all struggle with and to elevate voices that have been discounted for too long. Learning fascinating new stories can only add to the richness of our collective cultural narrative and our deeper understanding of each other.
