Indigo dye is a deep blue natural dye. The dye is extracted from the leaves of various, usually tropical, plants. The oldest known fabric dyed indigo is dated over 6,000 years ago in Peru. It was also used across the world in India, Japan, and ancient civilizations in Mesopotamia, Iran, and West Africa. We will be tie-dying with our natural indigo. Please bring a white, 100% natural (cotton, wool, linen, etc.) textile of your choice and we will help with the rest! Museum members are eligible for discounts on classes.
